homicides. in 2015 once mayor bowser took office the homicides skyrocketed to 16 2, the highest they'd been since 2008. and 2016 ended well over a hundred at 137 homicides. that even still there are somese deaths categorized as homicides by the medical examiner's offici that don't get counted as such. mpd doesn't count things like fatal hit and runs. they won't count officer-involved shootingsvo unlesslv an officer ends up beig arrested. then they might county as whom i'd. goes back to actually what they have to report as a homicide.icd they have not made the homicided rate public yet for 2016. however, in 2015, mpd reported closing 62 percent. closing for m p pd could either making an arrest or closure by exceptional means where there's no arrest, but police are unabll to either make an
